I have over 37 years of operations and maintenance engineering experience, starting my career in the Royal Navy, before moving into the Oil and Gas production industry.
I worked for BP, as a professional engineer, from early 2001 until I retired from the company at the beginning of 2021, in the position of Regional Mechanical Engineering Leader for Senegal and Mauritania operations. My 20 years’ experience in the Oil and Gas industry was split between downstream refining, upstream drilling\exploration and hydrocarbon production engineering. I worked in many locations around the world, including the Middle east, Europe, North and South America, Africa and the Far East.
My core skillset is a deep understanding of reliability centred maintenance techniques, integrity management and condition monitoring of both static and rotating equipment.
I have led many technical root cause investigations into plant failures, of both static and rotating equipment. This experience has provided me with a valuable, hands on, knowledge base of failure modes and effects of safety and production critical equipment and systems.
Time based maintenance is not suitable for all equipment classes and often, intervention should only be planned in relation to the condition of the equipment, mean time between failures and the predicted P-F curves. This approach is commercially and resource efficient, increases reliability and maximises availability of the equipment and systems. It also has a valuable impact in helping to identify and eliminate unnecessary TAR activities.
