A self-motivated Senior Manager/Project Director with a proven track record and extensive international experience who has performed various Senior Management roles of Engineering Services Companies, EPC Contractors and Client Organizations.

Extensive experience working on Oil & Gas and Petrochemical Projects, both National and International, e.g. Europe, Middle East and the Far East etc. This includes a substantial period as a Project Manager/Head of Department/Consultant. 

With over 30 years’ experience in a wide range of roles and industries, and a disciplined work ethic, I am able to work on my own initiative and as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment. Dedicated to maintaining high QHSE standards whilst adding value to businesses / projects and striving for continuous improvement.

Provided Project Management Services to various key clients in SE Asia. Supporting execution teams in various projects; FEED through to EPC & PMC, covering the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical and Mining industries in the SEA region.

 

Supported the training & development of Project Delivery personnel in the region through regular online training sessions and training workshops in a wide range of technical and sustainability subjects.

Appointed as a Project Executive on several projects to provide advice & guidance to project managers via regular technical/commercial project reviews. Led several Assurance Audits on projects, including in-depth desk top reviews with site follow up and support on corrective actions.

Petrofac (Aksai, Kazakhstan) – KPO KGDBN Project

  • Leading a Project Management Services Contract on behalf of the Petrofac led Consortium for the KPO KGDBN Project that represented a major upgrade to the facilities (Project Value ~$1.2BN).
  • Responsible for all in country technical & commercial aspects for the delivery and execution of the services (~$40M) including:
    • Client Interface with KPO/Shell/ENI 
    • Full in country Technical & Commercial responsibility for the contract
    • HSE & Security requirements, COVID-19 response as we remained throughout as critical workers
    • HSE/Technical & Commercial Risk Management

  • Provided technical and commercial services to companies in SE Asia and MENA, including specific Consultancy Services to contractors who had either encountered difficulties in the execution of contracts or were entering new markets within the energy industry.
  • Leading specialist teams (typically 3 to 25 people), the Services provided over the period include:
    • Technical & Commercial Audits – various audits carried out on major maintenance, fabrication, brown field EPC and engineering contracts to both identify and rectify problem areas or simply as an audit to confirm compliance and performance levels of the execution team along with key risks and opportunities. 
    • Major Bid Management – EPC brown field works. Management of all aspects of the proposal, estimating, supply chain, review & approval, terms & conditions and negotiations.
    • Project/Operations Management – Management of Business Departments, Engineering or EPC Contracts that had experienced poor performance and needed to be restructured to regain performance.
    • Red Team Reviews – review of bids at the critical stage, preparation and leadership of Red Team Reviews on Term Shutdown & Maintenance Contracts, Engineering of Brown field works, EPC Contract for remote Greenfield sites, EPC Brown field Upgrades and Modifications. 
    • Claims Management – ranging from major claims that threatened the business viability to specific contract default issues. Representing the Client, I was responsible for all aspects of the claims from strategy development, management of legal support, identification and mitigation of root causes, quantification of exposure and negotiation of settlements and drafting of settlement agreements.
    • Final Account Management and Closure – These services were carried out on turnkey Tank Farm EPC Contracts, Shutdown Contracts, Fabrication Contracts and Offshore Maintenance Contracts. As with the Claims Management services above, I was responsible for all aspects of the services on behalf of the client.
    • Drafting of Commercial Procedures and Work Processes – small to medium sized companies who had entered new markets required assistance to establish a cost effect and practical approach to the works. The scope typically included company registration & licensing support, basic project control systems, reporting systems and procedures, business processes and robust risk management methodology.
    • Business Development – identifying opportunities for companies in new territories and assisting them to establish a branch office in the new location and supporting them with the bidding process or a local JV partner. 
    • General Commercial Consultancy – this covered a wide variety of roles such as:
      • Review, advise and negotiation of corporate and contract insurances, terms & conditions, JV and MOU agreements, etc
      • Management of contract final accounts, project claims and learning reviews
      • Development of project control procedures and methodologies specific to business lines
      • Delay analysis on contracts
      • Review of estimating norms and their application for EPC and Shutdown tenders

Commercial & Contracts Manager Nov 2005 – April 2008

Costain Abu Dhabi LLC 

  • As part of the core management team for turning around the business that had a key focus on term maintenance contracts and EPC brown field works.
  • Responsible for the whole winning work element of the business (business development, proposals & estimating, contracts & procurement) as well as a significant amount of the corporate reporting and commercial support to the execution phase of the works.
  • Management of the closure of legacy work and negotiations for the final accounts whilst driving the new business strategy. 
  • Successfully reworked and implemented new business systems and strategies to deliver a high quality but cost effective service to Clients, resulting in significant repeat orders.

 

Area Manager August 2003 – Nov 2005 AMEC Spie, Malaysia & Singapore

  • Responsible for all works within Malaysia and Singapore, as well as providing contract & commercial support to the other businesses in the region.
  • Core business included Lump Sum Maintenance Engineering Service Contracts, Commissioning, Training, Operations & Maintenance.
  • Key member of the Regional Management Team for the development & implementation of the business strategy and the systems of work. 

Project Manager, Shutdowns & Maintenance Sept 2002 – March 2003 

AMEC Spie, SINCOR Upgrader Refinery, Venezuela

  • Responsible for the bidding and execution of the Preparations & Planning Phase of the SINCOR Shutdown & Debottlenecking Project on a 200,000 bpd Upgrader Refinery. 
  • This included the recruitment of a mixed local/expatriate team and all local logistics as well as all technical and commercial aspects of the contract.
  • The contract scope included the development of all plans, work packs, risk assessments, subcontracts, procurement and logistics associated with the full outage of the plant during a warranty and debottlenecking shutdown.

  • Based in Malaysia and reporting directly to the regional COO, my role was to identify, develop and execute viable Shutdowns and Maintenance works within SE Asia.
  • This included the total revamping of the business line, including all technical, commercial and supply chain elements. 
  • As part of the Regional Management Team, I was also heavily involved in the implementation of the regional business strategy and commercial support to other business lines.
  • Responsible for all Shutdown, Operations and Maintenance Tenders.

JV Company with Dialog Plant Services

  • Responsible to the JV Operations Director for driving the strategic business model for the division focussed on providing maintenance and related construction services to the oil and gas, petrochemical industries in the region.
  • Responsible and accountable for the development of all aspects of tenders (review of T&C’s, planning, estimating, execution strategies, subcontractors, pricing and negotiations with Clients, etc) for various types of Maintenance and Brown field Works. These included Integrated Operations & Maintenance Term Contracts, Shutdown Preparations & Execution, Maintenance Consultancy, Technical Audits and Brown field Modification Works.
  • Also heavily involved in the implementation of the newly formed JV Company, including the recruitment and training of local staff, procedure & system development and knowledge transfer.
  • Successfully bid and managed the execution of the LRCC Unit shutdown packages for Shell Refinery in Port Dickson, Malaysia, with a full complement of newly trained local staff.
