Internationally experienced Procurement and Supply Chain leader with highly focussed business acumen following career with blue chip corporations. Has designed and implemented centrally-led Procurement operating models incorporating strategic procurement and supplier relationship management approaches, and embedded category management processes appropriate for energy organisation operating environments. Employment History   

September 2023 – present – Managing Consultant: Coxton Consulting Ltd 

Incorporated a company as a vehicle to providing procurement consultancy services through direct and associate consulting opportunities. Services provided to clients to date include procurement strategy development, procedure and systems review and implementation, materials management standard development and assessment.  

  

June 2017 – May 2023 - Spirit Energy (previously Centrica E&P): Procurement and Supply Chain Director (CPO role)   

Leading Spirit Energy Procurement activity following the creation of a joint venture between Centrica Plc and SWM in December 2017. Role incorporated:   

  • Designing and implementing a fit for purpose procurement environment for an independent oil and gas company following separation from Centrica plc, and integrating SWM’s BayernGas activity – continually evolving and improving   
  • Establishing appropriate category approaches for core business delivery areas including production operations, wells, subsurface and exploration, capital projects and decommissioning   
  • Managing material supply chains through warehousing, storage, vessel and aviation movements (including crew transfers)   
  • Innovatively aligning with business targets and driving performance, including synergy opportunities from the creation of the JV   
  • Engaging and working with the senior executive team, maintaining a relationship with the CEO and other Excom members   
  • Building reporting and governance environment targeting key risk and value areas for the business   
  • Building relationships with the supplier community and encouraging and stimulating innovative commercial and technological advancement   
  • Building capability in non-procurement areas (ie contract owners) to maximise effective and safe contract execution   

   

Jan – May 2017 – Sabatical / volunteering and consulting   

Following completion of integration activity between Shell and BG Group, took short sabbatical to undertake volunteering work and explore consulting opportunities (a number of interesting short term procurement consultancy projects).   

  

BG Group plc: Head of Supply Chain, May 2015 – Dec 2016   

Defined and led the strategic direction of this new role, initiating a major change and improvement project to deliver $100m+ of value from several hundred million dollars of Group operational, drilling and project inventory, creating a new function built on a community of practice involving 150+ staff across the Group.   

  • Delivered a management system enabling global visibility of drilling inventory for the first time in BG – enabling an inventory reduction programme with $100m+ of value delivery   
  • Developed global Supply Chain competencies and comprehensive Supply Chain analytics reporting service, unlocking procurement leverage opportunities in excess of 10% of annual spend   
  • Contract Holder for global Logistics contract, delivering in excess of 10% of value from increased strategic global logistics management   
  • Drove significant improvement in master data, and bills of material implementation, reducing risk of deferred / lost production contributing to increased production efficiency estimated at 2%   
  • Developed guidance documents for warehousing and inventory management and QA to reduce inventory write off risk and increase availability of inventory when required   
  • Supported integration of Supply Chain function following the combination of Royal Dutch Shell and BG Group, with specific focus on supply chain synergy opportunities, identifying best practices for future operating model and underpinning delivery of stated synergy savings from the combination ($20m+ for this value area)   

  

BG Group plc: Contracts and Procurement Change Programme Director, 2012 – 2015   

Appointed by new Chief Procurement Officer to drive a significant procurement and supply chain transformation programme across BG Group with $500m savings target.   •   Project managed the transformation programme for the CPO   

  • Implemented process for category planning, strategic contractor relationships and value contribution (savings) – to deliver in excess of the $500m savings target   
  • Ensured successful delivery of 2012 and 2013 transformation targets, resulting in significant efficiency improvement measured in several hundred million dollars of savings and notable reputation improvement   
  • Worked closely with Ashridge Management School, designed and delivered a radical skills and behaviours development programme for contract owners, increasing quality of contract delivery in terms of improved HSSE (reduced frequency of incidents) and contract execution   

  

BG Group plc: Contracts and Procurement Manager, 2011 – 2012   

Managed the development and implementation of revised BG Group global contracting and procurement processes incorporating category management philosophies across BG Group. Delivered a step change in process efficiency and successfully implemented new processes (running and overseeing workshops to a population of 1400 across the Group), significantly increasing consistency in procurement and contracting practices across the Group and underpinning introduction of global category management.   

  

QGC (BG acquisition) – Brisbane Australia: C&P Manager Strategy and Development, 2009 –2011   

Following the acquisition, transferred to support the integration of QGC into BG, also managing the resourcing of a procurement team to support the $20bn major coal seam gas to liquefied natural gas project and asset operations.   

  • Resourced and managed a team of approximately 30 procurement professionals, supporting the operation, and led delivery of $25m+ value delivery per annum   
  • Developed contracting strategies in several key areas of the new business including onshore capital projects, drilling and maintenance, supporting schedule requirements of the project   
  • Built procurement capability and governance framework in a new acquisition   
  • Managed the development of BG’s local content strategy in Australia   

  

BG Egypt, Cairo: C&P Country Manager, 2006 –2009   

Seconded into joint venture organisation to support upcoming period of significant third party contracting ($1bn pa), working closely with JV co Chairman and MD. Responsibility included oversight of all procurement and supply chain activity across BG Egypt’s activities, managing and developing a team of 50 C&P professionals.   •  Developed effective partner relationships to support efficiency improvement   

  • During tenure, supported the contracting processes for several major offshore EPCI and onshore EPC projects and drilling rig contracts, meeting demanding schedule and budget requirements   
  • Implemented training programme developing 20+ national staff to MCIPS qualification   
  • Supported claims / dispute management, and defined a local content strategy   

  

BG Group plc: C&P Manager Performance and Best Practice, 2005 – 2006   

Reporting to GM C&P:   

  • Defined and implemented best practice approaches for the Group (including contract strategy process, contractor relationship framework, local content framework), supporting group framework contract development   
  • Provided contracting and procurement support to new country entries (Nigeria, Libya, Oman, Algeria, China), establishing local teams and external stakeholder relationships in order to support early exploration activities   

  

BG Group plc: Manager, Group Contracts (acting), 2005   

Reporting to the GM Contracts and Procurement, managed Group contracting activity for capital projects, exploration and drilling operations and provided support and challenge at major project readiness reviews/ project assurance events.   

  

Earlier career history   

BG Tunisia, Tunis/Sfax, Tunisia: C&P Country Manager Responsible for contracts and procurement activity, including contracting of brownfield, power station construction and capital projects, drilling (onshore and offshore), coached local procurement team to MCIPS status, implemented SAP, and won CEO Innovation award.   

BG Group, Reading: Supply Chain Consultant / Contracts Manager Internal consultant on significant change initiative delivering significant value ($100m+ savings) for capital infrastructure projects over a 5-year period, working closely with VP sponsors. Developed contract strategies with BG project teams for major offshore development projects.   

British Airways Plc: Commercial Manager IT infrastructure project contracting and bid team role in consultancy arm    NHS National Procurement Unit: Number of ground-breaking national contracts across technology areas for the NHS, delivering £25m+ savings.   

National Power Plc: Senior Buyer - National Power Plc, variety of roles covering stock control, inventory buying and technology procurement for a research facility.
